Job summary

RINA is seeking a Dredging Engineer for its Environmental and Engineering Geoscience Division with offices in Houston, TX, Fort Lauderdale, FL or Chicago/Lisle. The role leads dredging design, sediment characterization, placement planning, and permit support across projects, with a focus on safety and regulatory compliance.

You will oversee design and execution, coordinate with USACE and EPA protocols, manage cost estimates, and support procurement and construction supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental or civil engineering.
• Master’s degree in coastal engineering preferred.
• 10+ years in navigation and berth dredging design with construction phase involvement.
• Sediment testing to USACE and EPA protocols; dredged material placement design.
• Cost and production estimating for dredging works; dredging contract administration.
• Ability to travel up to 25% for job sites; Texas PE license strongly preferred.
• Gulf Coast projects and active participation in dredging associations such as WEDA.

Responsibilities

• Dredge Design: berth pocket depth, dredge geometry, volumes, maintenance allowances.
• Sediment characterization: sampling, testing, material classification, dredgeability.
• Dredged material placement: on-site, beneficial use, or USACE areas; area sizing and monitoring.
• Permitting support: 408, 10/404, turbidity controls, and coordination with navigation authorities.
• Procurement: dredging methods, cost estimation, contract packages, risk allocation.
• Construction supervision: surveys, daily production monitoring, verification for payment.
• Close-out and operation: acceptance surveys, maintenance dredging plans and capacity.
