Job summary

Volkert is seeking a Senior Drainage/Hydraulics Engineer to support the Mid Atlantic Region, based in Springfield, VA or nearby VA locations. The role requires a decade of drainage and water resources experience on transportation projects.

You will collect data, design stormwater and drainage systems using OpenRoads Designer and related tools, perform hydrologic analyses, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver quality programs on schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering.
• Valid Professional Engineering Licensure.
• 10+ years of relative/progressive drainage/water resources experience for transportation projects.
• Experience with OpenRoads Designer, StormCAD, PCSWMM, Pondpack, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, GIS and SUDA software.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

We are currently searching for an experienced Senior Drainage/Hydraulics Engineerto support ourMid Atlantic Regionlocated inSpringfield, VA or Virginia Beach, VA.

To be considered for this position, applicants musthave, at minimum, 10 years of progressive drainage/water resources experiences.

What you’ll be doing:

• Collecting and analyzing data for in Project Plans and reports
• Using computer engineering software to design stormwater management and storm drain systems, as well as soil erosion and sediment control systems
• Conducting hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for Transportation Improvement projects
• Preparing, applying and getting permits from local and state regulatory agencies
• Assisting and preparing project plans using OpenRoads Designer
• Contributing to the preparation and/or modification of scopes, complex engineering reports and calculations for a wide variety of projects
• Preparing and assisting in the preparation of project construction details, quantities, cost estimates and project specifications
• Reviewing construction plans/documents, project quantity estimates, reports and supporting documents, details, and drawings for compliance to project requirements
• Preparing and assisting with the preparation of project schedules
• Collaborating across multiple disciplines, subconsultants, and other professionals to successfully deliver quality projects within budget and schedule
• Overseeing project design activities, supervising production efforts, and mentoring junior level support staff and other designers
• Performing other professional, management, marketing and networking duties as assigned

What you need to have:

• Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering
• Valid Professional Engineering Licensure
• 10+ years of relative/progressive drainage/water resources experience for transportation projects
• Experience with OpenRoads Designer, StormCAD, PCSWMM, Pondpack, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, GIS and Subsurface Utility Design and Analysis (SUDA) software
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

Bonus points if you have:

• Previous VDOT Drainage design experience and strong knowledge of VDOT standards and procedures
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Master's in Water Resources field
