Volkert, Inc. seeks a Senior Drainage/Hydraulics Engineer to support our Mid Atlantic Region, based in Springfield, VA or Virginia Beach, VA.

The role requires a minimum of 10 years of progressive drainage/water resources experience on transportation projects. You will collect and analyze data for project plans, perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using OpenRoads Designer and related software, develop scopes and calculations, and mentor junior staff while collaborating across disciplines

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering required.
• Valid Professional Engineering licensure.
• 10+ years of progressive drainage/water resources experience for transportation projects.
• Experience with OpenRoads Designer, StormCAD, PCSWMM, PondPack, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, GIS and SUDA software.
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening.
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory MVR.

Responsibilities

• Design stormwater management and storm drain systems and soil erosion/sediment control.

Are we the road to your future?

We are currently searching for an experienced Senior Drainage/Hydraulics Engineer to support our Mid Atlantic Region located in Springfield, VA or Virginia Beach, VA.

To be considered for this position, applicants musthave, at minimum, 10 years of progressive drainage/water resources experiences.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Collecting and analyzing data for inclusion in Project Plans and reports
• Using computer engineering software to design stormwater management and storm drain systems, as well as soil erosion and sediment control systems
• Conducting hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for Transportation Improvement projects
• Preparing, applying and getting permits from local and state regulatory agencies
• Assisting and preparing project plans using OpenRoads Designer
• Contributing to the preparation and/or modification of scopes, complex engineering reports and calculations for a wide variety of projects
• Preparing and assisting in the preparation of project construction details, quantities, cost estimates and project specifications
• Reviewing construction plans/documents, project quantity estimates, reports and supporting documents, details, and drawings for compliance to project requirements
• Preparing and assisting with the preparation of project schedules
• Collaborating across multiple disciplines, subconsultants, and other professionals to successfully deliver quality projects within budget and schedule
• Overseeing project design activities, supervising production efforts, and mentoring junior level support staff and other designers
• Performing other professional, management, marketing and networking duties as assigned

What You Need To Have

• Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering
• Valid Professional Engineering Licensure
• 10+ years of relative/progressive drainage/water resources experience for transportation projects
• Experience with OpenRoads Designer, StormCAD, PCSWMM, Pondpack, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, GIS and Subsurface Utility Design and Analysis (SUDA) software
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

Bonus Points If You Have

• Previous VDOT Drainage design experience and strong knowledge of VDOT standards and procedures
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Master's in Water Resources field
