Moderna is seeking an experienced process development engineer to join the Process and Product Development - Clinical organization at the Norwood, MA site. The role focuses on downstream process development for recombinant enzymes produced in E.

coli, with responsibilities spanning design, optimization, and transfer of robust unit operations. You will apply engineering principles, statistics, and experimental judgment to build process understanding, improve product quality and recovery, and

Qualifications

• Advanced degree with relevant industry experience in downstream processes.
• Experience developing downstream processes for recombinant proteins/enzymes across unit operations.
• Hands-on design, execution, and interpretation of complex process-development experiments.
• Strong knowledge of protein chemistry, stability, impurity behavior, and scale-up.

Responsibilities

• Lead the definition, development, and implementation of moderately complex process and product development initiatives with CMC partners.
• Design, execute, analyze, and document laboratory studies for scalable downstream processes.
• Develop integrated process trains using lysis, clarification, filtration, chromatography, ultrafiltration, concentration, and buffer exchange.
• Define process flows, critical parameters, scale-down models, and control strategies using engineering and statistics.
• Lead or support technology transfer and provide technical support for manufacturing readiness.
