Job summary

The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School is seeking an Associate Director of Donor Communications, Wharton ExternalAffairs, to lead compelling donor storytelling across reports, proposals, and impact materials.

You will partner with Development and Principal Gift teams, craft persuasive narratives for six-figure and above gifts, manage multiple high-profile projects, and mentor writers while traveling for alumni events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience in development and principal giving communications
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with leadership and stakeholders
• Exceptional writing, research, and editing skills with adaptable style
• Discretion in maintaining confidentiality of donor data
• Excellent project and time management in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team; occasional evening/weekend work and travel

Responsibilities

• Establish strong working relationships with research programs and centers to create cases for support, proposals, and impact reports
• Serve as lead donor-relations writer for impact reports on high-priority research programs
• Collaborate with University-wide communications to announce principal gifts and share donor stories across platforms
• Create bespoke donor materials and advise on scalable content production for large donor audiences
• Manage competing priorities across multiple high-profile projects while delivering high-quality content
• Support successful fundraising goals through compelling wording and effective presentation of opportunities
• Act as subject matter expert on donor relations editorial standards and mentor team members
