Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a Senior Network Security Engineer to operate and secure classified DoD networks at China Lake, CA. The role blends hands-on Cisco networking with cybersecurity to maintain mission system availability.

You will configure Cisco routers/switches, manage LAN/WAN infrastructure, monitor health and backups, and support incident response and remediation efforts in a high-security environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field; additional experience may substitute for a degree.
• 5–7 years of experience in enterprise DoD/federal or regulated networks.
• Active Top Secret clearance w/SCI eligibility and SAP access.
• Current CCNA certification.
• Current DoD 8140 IAT Level III certification (e.g., CASP+ CE, CCNP Security, CISSP, etc.)
• Hands-on configuration and maintenance of Cisco network infrastructure.
• RMF experience per DoD/Navy cybersecurity requirements.
• Experience with Solaris, Linux, UNIX-based systems.
• Experience deploying/maintaining IDS, firewalls, or perimeter defenses.
• Continuity of operations planning and system availability documentation.

Responsibilities

• Configure and troubleshoot Cisco routers/switches for classified networks.
• Maintain and optimize enterprise LAN/WAN infrastructure.
• Monitor network health, logs, backups and scheduled jobs.
• Support remote users with setup and connectivity troubleshooting.
• Resolve Cisco, VPN, and VMware related issues.
• Perform software installations, upgrades, and security patches.
• Manage user accounts and access controls per security policies.
• Support incident response and vulnerability remediation.
• Maintain network procedures and technical docs.
• Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to resolve issues.
• Work with minimal supervision to strengthen security posture.
