Job description

Senior Division Order Analyst
About the Company

Our client is a prominent, multi-generational, family-owned oil and gas operator headquartered in Midland, Texas. With a long-standing footprint across both the Delaware and Midland sub-basins of the Permian Basin, the company operates a substantial portfolio of producing assets alongside a deep inventory of undeveloped leasehold.

The organization is distinguished by its disciplined capital allocation, conservative balance sheet management, and a genuine commitment to long-term stewardship of its mineral and working interest positions. This is a company that thinks in decades, not quarters — built on relationships, integrity, and operational excellence.

With an active drilling program and ongoing acquisition and divestiture activity, the company requires precise, timely division order work to support accurate and compliant revenue distribution across a growing well count.

Position Overview

The Senior Division Order Analyst will own the full lifecycle of division order administration for the company's Permian Basin producing portfolio — from title opinion review and interest calculations through division order preparation, owner relations, and revenue distribution oversight. This is a critical role that sits at the intersection of land, legal, accounting, and operations, requiring both technical precision and strong interpersonal skills.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned division order professional who takes pride in the accuracy of their work, communicates confidently with royalty and working interest owners, and thrives in a lean, high-accountability environment. This role offers meaningful ownership, direct visibility to senior leadership, and the opportunity to help shape division order processes and controls within a well-capitalized, growth-oriented organization.

Key Responsibilities
Division Order Preparation & Maintenance
  • Prepare, issue, and maintain division orders for all new and reworked wells across the company's Permian Basin asset base, including horizontal wells with complex ownership structures
  • Calculate working interest (WI), net revenue interest (NRI), royalty, and overriding royalty interest (ORRI) decimal fractions from title opinions, leases, and conveyance instruments
  • Review and interpret drilling title opinions, supplemental opinions, and curative title to set up accurate ownership decks
  • Process and track executed division order returns; follow up on outstanding signatures and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Maintain division order files and ownership records in the company's land management and revenue accounting systems
Title Analysis & Curative Coordination
  • Review title opinions and requirements to identify ownership issues affecting revenue distribution; coordinate with land counsel and the land team to prioritize and resolve curative items
  • Prepare and analyze ownership runsheets and chain of title documentation to support interest calculations
  • Identify and resolve title discrepancies, gaps in ownership, and conflicts between lease, deed, and probate records
  • Coordinate with the land administration team on post-closing integration of acquired properties, including ownership deck setup and transfer of pay status
Revenue Distribution & Suspense Management
  • Work closely with the revenue accounting team to ensure accurate and timely distribution of oil, gas, and NGL revenues to all interest owners
  • Manage suspense accounts — identify, track, and clear suspended funds related to title issues, unlocated owners, returned mail, and disputed interests
  • Ensure compliance with Texas unclaimed property (escheat) statutes and internal policies for suspense and escheatment reporting
  • Review and approve changes to pay status, ownership transfers, and interest assignments prior to distribution
Owner Relations
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for royalty owners, working interest owners, and mineral interest holders regarding division order inquiries, payment questions, and ownership changes
  • Respond professionally and promptly to owner correspondence, phone inquiries, and written requests for account information
  • Process ownership changes resulting from deeds, probate, trusts, entity restructurings, and court orders — ensuring proper documentation is obtained prior to any transfer of pay status
  • Maintain a positive, service-oriented relationship with the company's royalty owner base, consistent with the company's long-standing reputation in the Permian Basin community
Compliance & Reporting
  • Ensure division order administration practices comply with Texas Natural Resources Code, Texas unclaimed property law, and company policies
  • Prepare and submit annual unclaimed property reports in accordance with Texas Comptroller requirements
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, ownership histories, and pay status records as requested
  • Generate routine and ad hoc reports including interest owner summaries, suspense aging reports, and pay status change logs for the Land and Accounting teams
Systems & Process
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the company's revenue accounting and land management systems (e.g., WolfePak, Quorum, PHDWin, or comparable)
  • Identify opportunities to improve division order workflows, data integrity, and turnaround times; assist in implementing process enhancements
  • Support system data integrity by ensuring ownership records, decimal fractions, and pay status flags are accurately maintained
Qualifications
Required
  • 5–10 years of division order experience in upstream oil and gas, with demonstrated proficiency in Texas properties and Permian Basin operations preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of division order law, Texas royalty statutes, Texas unclaimed property regulations, and basic title concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate WI, NRI, royalty, and ORRI decimal fractions from title opinions and conveyance instruments
  • Experience managing suspense accounts and unclaimed property compliance
  • Proficiency with revenue accounting and/or land management software (WolfePak, Quorum, P2 Revenue, or similar)
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel; strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills; experience working directly with royalty and working interest owners
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Petroleum Land Management, Accounting, or a related field; CDO (Certified Division Order Analyst) designation a plus
  • Experience with horizontal well division orders and complex multi-zone, multi-unit ownership structures common in the Permian Basin
  • Familiarity with Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) systems and GIS/mapping tools
  • Prior experience supporting A&D transactions in a division order or land administration capacity
  • Experience working within a privately-held or family-owned E&P company
What the Company Offers

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a respected, well-capitalized Permian Basin operator with a strong producing asset base and a culture built on accountability, relationships, and long-term thinking. The company offers:

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
  • Performance-based bonus program
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and retirement
  • High-visibility role with direct access to senior land and finance leadership
  • Stable, low-turnover environment with meaningful work and genuine ownership of outcomes
  • The satisfaction of contributing to a multi-generational company that takes pride in doing things right
