Phasor Engineering Inc. is seeking an Intermediate or Senior Distribution Engineer to join our Mississauga team on a full-time basis. This hybrid role focuses on design of LV/MV overhead and underground systems across Canada and North America, collaborating with a seasoned technical team.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelors in Electrical or Civil Engineering, 5+ years in distribution design, and a P.Eng. license with stamping/sealing experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering and 5+ years in distribution design.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with stamping/sealing experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Lead LV and MV overhead and underground power delivery system design with scopes and estimates.
• Interact with internal/external contacts for design details.
• Accountable for project budget, schedule and resources.
• Perform design using PLS suite, QuickPole, or SPIDAcalc.
• Calculate load demand and voltage drop checks.
• Develop pole framing designs and specify materials.
• Coordinate with other units to verify design requirements and delivery.
• Perform peer reviews and seal drawings.
• Support junior team members and assist in proposals.
• Experience with permitting processes is desirable.

Job description

PHASOR Engineering Inc. is a dynamic consulting firm specializing in the engineering and design of overhead & underground transmission/distribution systems, substations, fibre optics, as well as substation and transmission foundations. Our expertise allows us to be involved in a diverse range of projects from conceptual engineering through to commissioning and startup.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Intermediate or Senior Distribution Engineer to join our engineering team on a full time basis. This hands on role is a new position within the company to support a variety of distribution projects across Canada and North America.

This role is based out of our Mississauga office. We offer a dynamic work environment with an extremely experienced technical team, where you will be continuously challenged in all aspects of the engineering and design process.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Lead the design of LV and MV overhead and underground power delivery systems by creating detailed scopes and estimates, performing calculations, developing design drawings following applicable utility, national or international standards and codes.
• Interact with internal / external contacts as necessary for design details.
• When required, be accountable for project budget, schedule and resources
• Carry out design using either PLS suite, Quickpole or SpidaCalc (at least one required)
• Perform electrical calculations (i.e. load demand, voltage drop checks etc.) is required
• Develop pole framing designs and specify associated materials
• Expertise in Streetlight and utility related civil design is highly desired
• Experience with Aerial Communications line & poles inspections or design. Using CSA 22.3 No. 1-20 Overhead Systems. and O.Reg. 22/04 guidelines.
• Knowledge of permitting processes (highway, railroad, city, county, etc.) are also highly desired.
• Collect, interpret, and organize project engineering and vendor data.
• Assist in compiling and maintaining internal engineering standards and work practices.
• Coordinate with other business units to verify their project design requirements and delivery schedule.
• Perform peer review checks and seal drawings
• Support and work closely with junior members of the team to deliver designs
• Assist in developing project proposals and estimates

Qualifications & Skills:

• The successful candidate should possess a Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering with a minimum of Five years' of experience related specifically to distribution design
• Currently Licensed as Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) and proven record of stamping and sealing designs
• Knowledge of the Microsoft office software suite of programs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as attention to detail are essential.
• Able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Desirable skills:

• Experience in streetlight design (knowledge of AGI32 software)
• Experience in distribution design for mine sites, wind farm collector systems, private connections
• Experience with LDC designs and standards. Toronto Hydro preferred.
• Experience with Microstation or AutoCAD
