Job summary

Workday in Pleasanton, CA is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to own the design and delivery of core tracing platform components built on ClickHouse and Grafana Tempo with a big-data pipeline backbone (Kafka, Spark/Flink, Iceberg, S3). This hands-on role targets multi-petabyte scale and low-latency infrastructure for Observability AI.

You will mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and contribute to end-to-end telemetry pipelines while collaborating across distributed

Qualifications

• 8+ years experience in software development engineering.
• 4+ years designing, building, and operating complex distributed systems.
• 5+ years with Java, Go, Scala or Python, in production code for distributed systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering; MS preferred or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong knowledge of high-availability and scalable distributed architectures.

Responsibilities

• Own technical design and execution for core components of Workday’s tracing platform.
• Mentor developers and act as domain expert for ingestion, storage and query performance.
• Collaborate across teams to improve observability pipelines and system reliability.
