Job summary

Cognizant’s IoT Practice in North Carolina is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and evolve a modern, event-driven microservices platform supporting toll and vehicle registration systems.

You will develop distributed systems using Java 21, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and Kafka, while mentoring juniors and shaping API design and deployment pipelines in an on-site role.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience, including 3+ years working with distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Java with modern frameworks such as Spring Boot and Spring Cloud.
• Experience with event-driven architecture and message brokers, particularly Kafka.
• Demonstrated expertise with PostgreSQL and Redis or comparable caching layers.
• Solid understanding of microservices patterns, distributed transactions, and eventual consistency.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes and containerization technologies.
• Proven track record of writing testable, high-quality code and championing engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement microservices within a saga-choreography architecture.
• Develop event-driven workflows and manage Kafka topics across domain services.
• Implement distributed data persistence and caching strategies.
• Write production-grade code with comprehensive test coverage.
• Collaborate on architectural decisions and API design, including OpenAPI specifications.
• Optimize database performance and oversee schema migrations.
• Mentor junior engineers on engineering best practices and domain-driven design.
• Contribute to infrastructure automation and deployment pipelines.
