Job summary

Roblox is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to shape architecture for our multi-tenant database platform, ensuring fast, reliable services at global scale. You will design engine features, scale the control plane, and drive autonomous operations across regions.

You'll mentor teams, review designs, and contribute to upstream discussions with Postgres and RocksDB communities while collaborating with Storage, Platform and product teams.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience.
• Deep experience with large-scale distributed databases or storage engines.
• Strong expertise in database internals (B-trees, MVCC, WAL) and query optimization.
• Proficiency in C/C++, Go or Rust; hands-on with Raft/Paxos.
• Experience shipping high-QPS, low-latency services on Kubernetes or Nomad.
• Ability to turn product needs into a technical roadmap; data-driven mindset.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement engine features, indexing, storage formats, WAL and replication.
• Evolve control plane for elastic scaling, autonomous healing, and zero-downtime moves.
• Profile and optimize critical code paths with advanced tooling; reduce tail latency.
• Lead reviews, performance benchmarks, drills, and post-incident retrospectives.
• Automate testing, CI/CD, rollout safety, observability and autoscaling.
• Mentor engineers and engage with open-source communities around Postgres and RocksDB.
