Job summary

IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. seeks a Senior Discovery Scientist to drive inVue system discovery for New Product Development activities, translating promising concepts into team projects.

Job description

The Senior Discovery Scientist will provide inVue system discovery resources to drive pipeline capability for New Product Developmetn activities.

In this role:
  • You will perform scientific research leading to development of commercial products for the Company.
  • You will perform rigorous evaluations to understand if new discoveries will fit with Company product strategy.
  • You will engage in cutting edge, theoretical research while maintaining business acumen to understand materials and processes that are manufacturable with commercial potential.
  • You will work with diseases or platforms that change diagnosis paradigm.
  • You may invent/identify new reagents, biomarkers with associated antibodies and biotechnology processes, new scientific technologies, novel chemistries and solutions, conjugation methods and other areas.
  • You will explore novel applications and create patentable technologies.
  • You will evaluate new technology.
  • You will perform conjugations, analyte characterizations and other scientific procedures.
  • YOu will partner with disease leaders, medical affairs, marketing, operations, quality, regulatory, legal, business development and others.
  • You will present ideas/data to other parts of the organization for feedback on feasibility and promise.
  • You will stay current with new science and technology developments, with the freedom to explore areas unrelated to immediate product development.
  • You will maintain knowledge of intellectual property (IP) and monitor IP landscape through literature searches and other methods.
  • You will solicit collaborations with outside esearchers/organizations/universities.
  • You will develop a network of technical and business stakeholders, including professors, industry leaders and others; present at scientific meetings.
  • You will develop strategic marketing partnerships.
  • You will assist in preparation of peer review manuscripts and patent applications.
What you need to succeed:
  • PhD required.
  • Exhibits in-depth understanding of biological and chemical principles and concepts as they relate to commercial products.
  • Work context involves novel and variable situations requiring analytical and creative thinking. Demonstrates complex problem-solving skills and applies broad range of tools to critically evaluate, interpret and summarize data with ability to propose next steps.
  • Demonstrated project planning and management skills to meet technical project deadlines. Effectively manages collaborators as appropriate. Good organizational skills.
  • Strong technical decision-making skills and associated risk assessment.
  • Demonstrates significant independent action on technical matters.
  • Demonstrated customer orientation.
  • Displays teamwork and cooperation across units
