Job description

Job Description Summary

The need for clean energy is greater than ever. At GE Vernova Hitachi (GEVH), we are helping address climate change by designing technology to power our future with reliable, affordable, carbon-free energy. We are a world leader in advanced reactor technology, fuel, and services. Join us as we build our legacy, boldly innovating to provide carbon-free power to the world.

We are a diverse and dedicated global team that values your unique identity, background, and experiences. We are committed to fostering an inclusive culture where everyone feels accepted, respected, and that they belong. By embracing diverse teams and perspectives, we are better equipped to build a world that works.

Discipline Engineers will be part of a multi-disciplinary technical team of engineers and scientists responsible for applying GEH's new plant technology to prospective sites, including comprehensive engineering input for new plant proposals, early works agreements, and new product offerings.

In this role, the Mechanical Systems Discipline Engineer will determine how standard plant designs meet application-specific requirements, codes, and standards while incorporating new product modifications. You will leverage your expertise to provide detailed statements of work, proposal write-ups, estimates, schedule development, and risk assessments supporting site selection, permitting, and licensing milestones. You will coordinate with engineering managers on departures from standard products to produce cost, cycle, and risk estimates for new plant opportunities, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery of projects and supporting proposal and early works projects.

Job Responsibilities
  • Report to the Plant Engineering Manager (solid line) and Discipline Engineering Manager (dotted line).
  • Ensure proposals and early works packages align with our standard offerings, identifying technical departures and providing associated costs, cycles, and risks.
  • Establish and maintain effective discipline-specific design interfaces documented in proposals and contracts.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal and external engineering teams, partners, customers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Assist proposal and early works teams with estimates, schedules, and risk identification.
  • Provide guidance to external engineering resources to ensure quality, flexibility, and improved cost positions.
  • Support business development efforts and protect intellectual property rights.
  • Contribute to initiatives, process improvements, and ensure compliance with nuclear safety standards.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive engineering design and/or project leadership experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience in the nuclear industry or large-scale power plant projects.

Preferred:

  • Location at GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC, or highly qualified remote candidates.
  • Up to 10% domestic/international travel (15% if remote).
  • Eligibility for access to U.S. export-controlled information.
Additional Details

The base salary range is $128,000 – $202,000, influenced by experience, education, and skills. The role includes bonuses and benefits such as healthcare, retirement plans, tuition and adoption assistance, paid parental leave, disability, life insurance, and paid time off. The position is open until May 16th, with a preference for candidates authorized to work in the U.S. and willing to relocate if necessary.

GE Vernova is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We only consider candidates authorized to work in the U.S. and who can pass a drug screening. Relocation assistance is provided.
