Job summary

Emory University is seeking a Senior Director of Sourcing & Contracting to lead a high-performing team responsible for strategic sourcing, supplier management and contracting across the university. The role drives value through category strategy, risk mitigation, and supplier innovation while partnering with senior stakeholders.

The position requires a track record in multi‑category sourcing, complex negotiations, and CLM processes, with preferred MBA and CPSM/CIPS certifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field; 10 years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, category management, and contracting within a complex organization.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing high-performing teams with expertise in sourcing strategy, complex negotiations, and contract management across multiple spend categories.
• Strong understanding of procurement technologies (eSourcing platforms, spend analytics tools, P2P systems, CLM).
• Knowledge of modern strategic sourcing methodologies including category management, supplier segmentation, and TCO analysis.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills with ability to drive cross-group alignment.
• Experience leading change initiatives and driving process improvement in a dynamic environment.
• MBA or other master's degree and CPSM/CIPS or equivalent certifications preferred.
• Experience in higher education or similarly complex, decentralized organizations.

Responsibilities

• Leads, coaches, and develops a team of sourcing and contracting professionals with a focus on accountability and continuous improvement.
• Sets clear performance expectations and provides ongoing feedback, mentoring, and career development opportunities.
• Builds capability in strategic sourcing, negotiation, analytics, and SRM across the university.
• Oversees category management strategies aligned with university priorities and total cost of ownership.
• Partners with stakeholders to understand needs and develop multi-year sourcing strategies.
• Identifies opportunities for cost savings, demand management, and process efficiencies.
• Leads complex negotiations and contracting to achieve optimal commercial, legal, and operational outcomes.
• Maintains standardized contract templates and playbooks with the Office of General Counsel.
• Ensures contracts reflect best practices in risk mitigation, compliance, and performance management.
• Develops supplier segmentation strategies and implements supplier performance management.
