Job summary

The Fresh Air Fund in New York City is seeking a Deputy Director of School-Year Programs to lead and enhance our school-year portfolio. You will oversee staff, design curricula, and ensure youth safety while delivering engaging, nature-based experiences.

You will partner with the Director to plan, implement, and evaluate programs, supervise coordinators, manage logistics, and collaborate with schools and community partners in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of experience in youth programming, education, nonprofit management, or community engagement.
• Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers.
• Experience designing or improving program systems, curricula, or training models.
• Strong operational and logistical planning skills across multi-site programming.
• Skilled communicator to facilitate trainings and engage external partners.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; Salesforce experience preferred.
• Bilingual (Spanish or Mandarin) a plus.

Responsibilities

• Translate department goals into actionable program plans, schedules, milestones.
• Coordinate program design, implementation, and evaluation with staff and families.
• Lead on-site program operations, including evenings and weekends as needed.
• Monitor attendance, enrollment, and family communications; follow up with staff.
• Implement safety procedures and incident response; escalate concerns to Director.
• Collaborate with schools, partners, and internal teams to align curricula and programs.
• Coach coordinators on lesson design and group management.
• Supervise program coordinators and staff with regular feedback and accountability.
• Oversee data quality and program records in Salesforce/FreshForce.
