Abacus Group is seeking a Senior Director of Tax to lead the U.S. tax function from its Manhattan, NY office.

The role requires guiding tax strategy, compliance, and risk management across North America, with direct involvement in M&A activities and cross-border matters. You will advise senior leadership, coordinate with global headquarters, and drive value through tax planning, transfer pricing, and regulatory compliance while championing collaboration across finance, legal, and corporate

Qualifications

• 15+ years of relevant tax experience.
• Experience with foreign-owned companies with US subsidiaries.
• M&A experience is a plus.
• Leadership experience is required.
• Excellent communication skills.
• CPA preferred.

Job description

Our client is a trading and investment group. They seek a Senior Director to join their Manhattan, NY office.

Responsibilities

• Spearhead the U.S. tax function in alignment with corporate governance standards, establishing enterprise-wide policies, controls, and decision frameworks across the organization and its subsidiaries
• Advise the CFO, executive leadership, Board, and headquarters stakeholders on tax implications related to investments, portfolio actions, and strategic approvals
• Architect and implement a forward-looking tax strategy that supports both immediate objectives and long-term enterprise value creation.
• Direct tax leadership for all North American M&A activity, including acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, minority investments, restructurings, and carve-outs
• Oversee tax due diligence and transaction structuring to identify material risks and optimize value across U.S. and international tax considerations.
• Guide executive decision-making by delivering clear, risk-balanced recommendations on transaction structures, tax attributes, valuation impacts, and downstream implications
• Govern tax strategy and compliance for the U.S. consolidated group, including intercompany frameworks and international matters such as transfer pricing, BEAT, withholding, and anti-boycott rules in coordination with global headquarters
• Ensure timely, accurate tax compliance filings; manage audits and regulatory engagements; and oversee consolidated tax accounting provisions and disclosures in partnership with corporate accounting
• Mitigate tax risk exposure affecting investment outcomes, governance standards, and long-term portfolio performance
• Champion cross-functional collaboration and tax discipline across finance, legal, corporate development, and subsidiary leadership to enable compliant, value-focused decision-making throughout the investment lifecycle
