Job summary

RXO is seeking a Senior Director of Operational Excellence in Phoenix to lead the company’s continuous improvement efforts. You will drive the Operational Excellence Management System, guide cross-functional process improvements, and champion data-driven decision making to deliver measurable value.

Responsibilities include piloting new tools, aligning projects with strategy, and mentoring teams to sustain improvements across the enterprise.

Qualifications

  • Senior leader overseeing Operational Excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong change management, Lean/Six Sigma, and KPI reporting experience.
  • Ability to drive large-scale programs across complex operations.

The Senior Director, Operational Excellence applies industry leading best practices in order to continuously improve and bridge operational and technology processes; drives a culture of change that balances the respect for the team with the implementation of new processes and tools; has primary responsibility for leading the assessment, implementation, maturation and reporting activities associated with the Operational Management System. The Operational Excellence leader will be the catalyst to challenge the status quo which will continually drive improvements via best practice replication, learning from within the network and externally, creative and innovative solutions, alignment of goals and objectives and resource planning to deliver results.

What your day-to-day will look like
  • Implementation and maturation of the Operational Excellence Management System

    • Develop, implement, measure and continuously improve the operational process and technology associated with achieving efficiencies across the department.
    • Recommend and guide the implementation of automation supporting process and service improvement.
    • Manage the efficient and effective roll out of new innovative processes and tools.
    • Provide considerable influence and guidance to colleagues in maturing IT and business Operational Excellence.
    • Facilitate improvement activities such as pre-planning, events and activities, and close out actions to ensure timely completion.
    • Assist the Process Owners in identifying key opportunities for improvement and initiating new projects to close gaps.
    • Proactively seek Site Champion’s support to address barriers beyond his/her ability to influence.
    • Keep Champion(s) abreast of project status and activities to reduce opportunities for miscommunication.
    • Act as a Change Agent by continuously challenging the status quo.
    • Manage and facilitate continuous improvement projects in support of infrastructure objectives.
    • Assess current processes and standard work flow to identifies process improvement opportunities utilizing organizational, analytical, and problem solving methodologies.
    • Assist in selecting, scoping and prioritizing continuous improvement projects across the business.
    • Estimate and verify financial benefits from continuous improvement projects.
    • Act as a change agent by communicating enterprise-wide changes to employees and helping them to learn, understand, adjust and grow within the continuous improvement culture.
    • Drive the change management necessary to implement effective programs.
    • Think strategically to anticipate future issues and challenges and create appropriate plans now, using proactive approaches.
    • Lead large scale and complex improvement projects across the infrastructure enterprise and effectively coordinate these projects with other improvement project teams.
    • Identify organizational barriers and recommend solutions to the leadership team.
    • Promote “Operational Excellence” through daily passion for continuous improvement and the constant elimination of waste.
    • Ensure Operational Excellence projects are integrated and aligned with other business activities, improvement projects, and business strategy while communicating best practices and key learnings across the organization.
    • Focus on accelerating rapid continuous improvement in Operations.
  • KPI’s/Metrics, Tracking and Reporting

    • Manage the development and maintenance of methods and systems for measuring the degree to which the project goals, objectives and metrics are being met. Provide leadership and Champions with the results and take corrective project action as required to improve on results below targets.
    • Develop metrics in support of the Operational Excellence vision.
    • Collect, review and analyze data to provide recommendations to the leadership team.
    • Develop and support a visual management system to track and improve operational performance.
    • Create and maintain metrics to track progress and sustainment of improvements.
    • Lead organization’s capability in knowledge and understanding of metrics and measurements which impact the total performance of the infrastructure organization.
    • Demonstrate analytical capability to find systemic issues to root cause, and create actions plans to mitigate, close and/or eliminate.
    • Assist in establishing metrics and design performance monitoring systems to provide quantifiable gauges of results and impact of Lean activities.
    • Proficient in obtaining, organizing, and analyzing data to make fact-based decisions and drive root cause analysis
