Job summary

Abnormal is seeking a Director of Security reporting to the CISO and leading the Security Engineering organization. You will build and scale high-performing security teams, own major security programs end to end, and operate autonomously in the CISO's absence.

This role requires deep technical leadership with a software engineering background, experience building security programs from the ground up, and the ability to influence across executives, customers, and auditors. Remote in the USA.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in security or software engineering.
• 4+ years managing security teams, including managers or equivalent scope.
• Software engineering background with production code experience.
• Fluent in cloud-native environments (AWS, multi-account governance).
• Strong cross-functional leadership and executive communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as deputy to the CISO with full authority in their absence and represent security to executives, customers, and regulators.
• Lead, coach, and grow managers and senior engineers across Security Engineering and Security Operations.
• Own the security engineering roadmap: cloud security, detection and response, identity, vulnerability management, and secure-by-default investments.
• Drive cross-functional programs with Engineering, IT, and Product; set and defend engineering standards; translate risk to the executive level.
