Job summary

Abnormal AI is seeking a Director of Security reporting to the CISO to lead the Security Engineering organization. You will build and scale high‑performing security teams, own major programs end to end, and operate autonomously in the CISO’s absence, including representing security to executives, customers, and auditors.

This is a deeply technical leadership role with a software engineering background, requiring hands‑on code/architecture involvement and a track record of scaling security teams

Qualifications

• Ten or more years in security or software engineering.
• Proven ability to build and scale security teams.
• Experience leading managers or multiple teams.
• Strong understanding of cloud-native security (AWS, IAM, governance).
• Demonstrated cross-functional leadership with engineering and product teams.

Responsibilities

• Serve as deputy to the CISO with full authority in their absence.
• Coach and grow Security Engineering and Security Operations managers and engineers.
• Own the cloud security architecture, detection/response, identity, and secure-by-default investments.
• Drive cross-functional programs with Engineering, IT, and Product, including compliance.
• Set engineering standards for security and automate processes where possible.
• Build hiring pipelines and manage performance and succession within teams.
• Translate technical risk into business terms for executives and the board.
