Job Summary:
The Senior Director of IT Operations is a passionate and detailed customer-centric leader responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the IT environment, ensuring operational and executional excellence through efficient and effective delivery of IT operational services. This role involves strategic planning, managing IT infrastructure, and leading teams of professionals to maintain high standards of IT performance, security, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop teams of IT professionals, championing a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence.
- Lead cross-functional teams across boundaries, fostering collaboration between technology teams, business units, and external vendors, establishing and promoting shared accountability for outcomes.
- Ensure clarity in roles, responsibilities, and deliverables for all team members, fostering a high-performance culture, encouraging professional growth, and team development.
Strategic Planning and Stakeholder Management:
- Develop and implement IT operational strategies aligned with the organization's objectives, ensuring scalability and sustainability.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including team members, senior leadership, and external partners, facilitating effective communication channels to ensure stakeholder alignment and expectations management.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders, providing insights and updates on operational health, risks, and outcomes.
Operational Management:
- Oversee the support, maintenance, and management of IT infrastructure, including servers, telecom, networks, and data centers, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
- Implement Observability best practices to ensure comprehensive visibility into system performance and health for proactive awareness of real-time events.
- Develop and oversee Incident Response protocols, ensuring swift and effective triage and resolution of IT incidents to minimize impact on operations.
- Drive and manage Change initiatives, ensuring successful execution of changes and adoption of new processes and strategies.
- Partner with the ITSM and SRE leaders to enhance problem management processes, identifying, analyzing, and resolving IT problems, ensuring root causes are tracked and addressed to prevent recurrence.
Vendor Management:
- Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors and service providers, managing vendors and ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
- Implement vendor governance practices, ensuring regular strategic, management, and operational reviews are performed for mutual alignment.
Continuous Improvement:
- Performance Management: Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of IT operations and drive continuous improvement.
- Operational Excellence: Drive initiatives to achieve operational excellence, optimizing processes and automations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
IT Compliance and Security:
- Risk and Compliance: Ensure the organization's IT systems are secure and compliant with regulations and standards, identify and mitigate IT risks.
- Security: Implement robust information security practices, maintaining best practices for patching and vulnerability management.
Innovation:
- Innovation: Stay abreast of IT operational best practices and industry trends, recommending and implementing innovations across people, process, and technology, to enhance and continuously improve IT operations.
- Automation: Provide strategic guidance and implement plans to improve creative processes, boost productivity, and drive efficiency through automation tools.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in IT operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership/director role.
- Skills: Strong leadership and management skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of IT infrastructure, network management, telecom/CCaaS management, and cybersecurity.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as ITIL, PMP, CISSP, or equivalent are highly desirable.
