Job summary

Marketlab, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, seeks a Director of Design Engineering to own the technical integrity of products from concept through release and lifecycle change. You will lead a scalable design engineering function, mentor the team, and guide external partners to deliver high-quality medical devices and healthcare solutions.

Qualifications

• Leads physical-product design and development from concept to lifecycle change.
• Strong experience with requirements, CAD, tolerancing, BOMs, materials, and testing.
• Experience directing external engineering partners and validating design decisions.

Responsibilities

• Define and improve Marketlab's Design Engineering operating model, including standards and gates.
• Lead engineering work across the product lifecycle from customer need to transfer.
• Approve product requirements, specs, drawings, and changes as senior Design Engineering authority.
• Chair design and technical reviews at major milestones; ensure test completeness and risk assessment.
• Set risk-based verification/validation strategies and appropriate evidence plans.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Quality, Regulatory to ensure compliance and traceability.
• Coordinate with Sourcing and Manufacturing to assess capability and readiness for transfer.
• Direct external engineering and testing partners; manage milestones and deliverables.
• Develop and mentor the Design Engineering team and grow future capacity.
