Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers seeks a Senior Director of Development to lead major and principal gift philanthropy for VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center. You will manage a high-capacity donor portfolio and collaborate with leaders, faculty, and researchers to advance research, education, and clinical care.

You will partner with medical and university stakeholders to align fundraising with institutional priorities, supervise frontline fundraisers, and drive stewardship of grateful patient

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience.
• 7+ years fundraising with success closing $1M+ gifts.
• Experience fundraising within an academic medical center or cancer center.
• Experience with grateful patient fundraising and physician engagement strategies.
• Ability to navigate complex organizations and align philanthropy with priorities.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of approximately 80–100 major and principal gift prospects and donors.
• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts.
• Develop and execute cultivation and solicitation strategies for donor engagement.
• Prepare gift agreements and donor communications aligned with priorities.
• Lead frontline fundraising staff and volunteer engagement efforts.
