Description

The Senior Director, IT Infrastructure and Cybersecurity, is a senior technology leader accountable for the strategy, architecture, management and continuous improvement of Codexis Infrastructure services and Cybersecurity operations. The role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on technical judgment and people leadership, translating business priorities into secure, reliable and scalable capabilities across networks, cloud, servers, storage, endpoints and application infrastructure.

The successful candidate will partner across the business, guide infrastructure investment and work allocation, and ensure services are operated with appropriate resilience, security and accountability. The role also provides infrastructure leadership for enterprise Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities and partners with IT and Business stakeholders to govern AI data access, AI architecture and tool deployment, AI agents and associated risks.

Key Responsibilities

• Set infrastructure strategy and architecture: Define and maintain a forward‑looking roadmap for network, cloud, server, storage, endpoint and application infrastructure aligned with Codexis IT and Business priorities.
• Lead reliable infrastructure and end user services operations: Oversee service expectations, operating practices and accountability for the availability, performance, capacity, and lifecycle of infrastructure services.
• Develop the team and operating model: Set priorities and work allocation; coach employees and partners; contribute to performance discussions; clarify roles; and build the skills needed for current and future IT demands.
• Manage partners, investments and risk: Oversee infrastructure vendors and service providers, contribute to contract and budget decisions, communicate risk and performance, and recommend investments based on business value and lifecycle needs.
• Direct network and perimeter capabilities: Oversee network architecture and management, including connectivity, segmentation, remote access, perimeter services and protection of critical environments.
• Advance cloud and Microsoft platforms: Lead cloud architecture and management, including Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 infrastructure, identity, endpoint and security dependencies.
• Lead AI infrastructure and platform governance: Establish the infrastructure architecture, approved platform patterns, environment controls, integration standards, capacity planning, observability and support model for enterprise AI services and agent platforms.
• Govern AI agents and lifecycle: Maintain visibility of AI agents and their owners; define intake, risk‑tiering, development, testing, approval, publishing, change, monitoring, reassignment and retirement expectations; and ensure production agents have accountable ownership and support.
• Strengthen AI data governance and security: Partner with Business and Information Technology team to develop and enforce data classification, least‑privileged access, approved data‑source and connector controls, retention, privacy, intellectual‑property, auditability and data‑loss‑prevention requirements to AI solutions.
• Oversee AI security and operational risk: Coordinate threat modeling, security review, identity and secrets management, vulnerability management, logging, incident response and business continuity for AI services and agents, including risks arising from excessive permissions, unsafe actions, unapproved integrations and sensitive‑data exposure.
• Govern endpoint, server and storage platforms: Guide architecture, standards, lifecycle planning and operational performance for endpoints, servers and storage.
• Enable application infrastructure: Partner with application owners and business teams to deliver secure, supportable and scalable infrastructure for enterprise and scientific applications.
• Embed security and resilience: Provide cybersecurity leadership, oversee existing Managed Security Service Provider services, and incorporate network, endpoint, server, identity, data protection, vulnerability management, incident response and recovery requirements into infrastructure design and operations.
• Lead incident and problem management: Provide executive‑level direction during significant infrastructure or security events, drive investigation and restoration, and ensure corrective actions reduce recurrence.
• Establish governance and metrics: Maintain architecture standards, service documentation, asset visibility, technology roadmaps and meaningful measures for reliability, security, delivery and continuous improvement.
• Communicate with senior stakeholders: Translate technical options, constraints and risks into clear business recommendations for executives and cross‑functional leaders.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Experience leading infrastructure strategy and operations across multiple domains such as networks, cloud, servers, storage, endpoints and application infrastructure.
• Experience translating business requirements into infrastructure architecture, roadmaps, standards and prioritized investments.
• Experience leading teams and external service providers, including work allocation, coaching, performance input and capability development.
• Experience managing Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 infrastructure or comparable enterprise cloud and productivity platforms.
• Experience with Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Purview, identity protection, AI security controls or adjacent Microsoft security capabilities.
• Experience with Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, agent administration, Power Platform governance, AI risk‑management frameworks or comparable enterprise AI platforms and controls.
• Experience directing major incidents, technical investigations, service restoration and durable corrective actions.
• Experience defining and integrating cybersecurity, identity, vulnerability management, data protection, business continuity and disaster recovery requirements into infrastructure decisions.
• Experience communicating technical risk, service performance and investment recommendations to senior business and technology stakeholders.
• A combination of education and experience appropriate to the role, such as a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 15+ years of related experience.

Additional experience that would be valuable for this role includes:

• Experience supporting infrastructure in a biotechnology, life sciences, laboratory, manufacturing or other regulated environment.
• Experience with formal architecture, service management, risk or cybersecurity frameworks and controls.
• Experience modernizing hybrid infrastructure, increasing automation, improving observability or advancing cloud operating models.
• Relevant certifications in cloud, networking, infrastructure, service management, cybersecurity or enterprise architecture.
• Experience with vendor negotiations, financial planning and lifecycle‑based technology investment.
• Experience governing enterprise AI platforms or automation solutions, including data access, identity, connectors, lifecycle controls, monitoring, security review and cross‑functional risk decisions.
