Job summary

Ocean Conservancy is seeking a Senior Director of Clean Energy and Climate Diplomacy to advance decarbonization of the ocean energy sector through policy, partnerships and strategic leadership. This role can be remote or hybrid and reports to the Vice President, Climate.

The Senior Director oversees a small team, coordinates cross‑department collaboration, engages domestic and international stakeholders, and helps secure funding while expanding the organization’s climate impact globally.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years in climate and clean energy policy, with both policy development and implementation experience.
• Creative, open, and innovative approach to policy development.
• Strong leadership and management experience supervising teams and cross-functional collaboration.
• Experience in budget development and management.
• Excellent relationship-building skills across organizations and stakeholder groups.
• Established relationships within domestic and international climate and energy communities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and high-level representation.
• Experience running public events and engaging with government at high levels.
• Strong analytical background in climate analysis or clean energy data.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead implementation of clean ocean energy and climate mitigation strategies and policy priorities with clear goals and metrics.
• Provide strategic guidance on ocean energy and climate issues and brief senior leadership.
• Lead and mentor a team of about four staff, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
• Collaborate across departments to align climate and clean energy initiatives institution-wide.
• Build and maintain relationships with domestic and international stakeholders.
• Represent Ocean Conservancy at public forums, conferences, coalition meetings, and government engagements.
• Monitor trends in climate analysis and clean energy data to inform strategy and decision-making.
• Support fundraising goals for climate work and organizational growth.
• Work with Strategic Communications to raise external visibility.
• Oversee budgets and resources in line with strategic priorities.
