ADP is hiring a Senior Director of Engineering Excellence to lead DevSecOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Architecture, and Quality Engineering across our Shared Products portfolio.

The Role

As the Senior Director of Engineering Excellence, you will lead DevSecOps, SRE, Architecture, and Quality Engineering across ADP's Shared Products portfolio, including MyADP Mobile, Marketplace, Reporting & Analytics, Document Cloud, Enterprise Search, Communication Hub, Translation Services, Offers, and Connect. The portfolio spans cloud-native and on-premises technologies and provides critical capabilities leveraged across ADP.

Your mission is to create a consistent, highly automated, platform-oriented engineering model that improves productivity, quality, security, reliability, and speed. You will partner with product and engineering teams to set architecture strategy, evolve products toward reusable platform capabilities, and drive adoption of AI-enabled engineering and the ADLC.

What You'll Do

Drive Engineering Excellence

• Establish common engineering standards, tooling, practices, and governance across Shared Products.
• Create reusable capabilities, paved roads, and automation that reduce duplication and increase engineering productivity.
• Establish measurable goals for quality, security, reliability, developer productivity, and delivery efficiency.
• Build communities of practice that accelerate adoption and reuse across teams.

Set Architecture & Platform Strategy

• Define the architecture strategy and target state across cloud-native and on-premises products.
• Partner with product teams to evolve products to behave more like platforms, with reusable, API-first capabilities that can be easily consumed across ADP.
• Establish reference architectures and standards that simplify the technology landscape, promote reuse, and reduce technical debt.
• Guide modernization and major architecture decisions with a focus on scalability, security, reliability, and cost.

Advance DevSecOps & Quality Engineering

• Standardize and automate CI/CD, infrastructure as code, release management, testing, security controls, and developer self-service.
• Embed security and quality throughout the development lifecycle through automated testing, vulnerability management, scanning, and preventative controls.
• Increase test automation and establish reusable Quality Engineering frameworks.
• Improve developer experience, release confidence, and speed to production.

Strengthen Reliability & Operational Excellence

• Establish SRE standards for observability, SLOs/SLIs, capacity, resilience, disaster recovery, and operational readiness.
• Improve incident detection, response, recovery, and root-cause analysis.
• Reduce operational toil and recurring incidents through automation and systemic remediation.
• Provide leadership during significant production incidents and drive continuous improvement from operational data.

Drive AI & ADLC Transformation

• Lead adoption of AI-enabled engineering and the ADLC across Shared Products.
• Embed AI and agentic capabilities across architecture, development, testing, security, CI/CD, operations, and incident management.
• Scale successful agents, skills, workflows, and engineering practices across the portfolio.
• Establish adoption and maturity goals and measure impact on productivity, cycle time, quality, security, and time-to-market.
• Partner with enterprise teams to help shape the evolution of the ADLC while ensuring responsible AI adoption.

Measure Outcomes & Lead Transformation

Establish a common engineering scorecard across Shared Products, including availability, deployment velocity, change failure rate, MTTR, vulnerabilities, quality, automation, developer productivity, ADLC adoption, operational efficiency, and technical debt.

Build and develop a high-performing organization of architects, SRE, DevSecOps, and Quality Engineering professionals. Partner across Product, Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, Infrastructure, and Risk to drive change across a complex, matrixed organization.

To Succeed in This Role

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of progressive technology experience across software engineering, architecture, DevSecOps, SRE, Quality Engineering, cloud infrastructure, or related disciplines.
• 7+ years of leadership experience, including leading senior technical professionals and leaders.
• Demonstrated success driving engineering transformation and standardization across multiple products or platforms.
• Strong knowledge of modern architecture, APIs, microservices, distributed systems, cloud-native engineering, and platform architecture.
• Experience supporting both cloud-native and on-premises environments.
• Deep understanding of DevSecOps, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, automated security, and Quality Engineering.
• Experience establishing SRE practices including observability, SLOs, incident management, capacity planning, and resilience.
• Experience with public cloud and container technologies, preferably AWS and Kubernetes/EKS.
• Demonstrated ability to establish architecture strategy and create reusable platform capabilities.
• Proven ability to lead transformation through influence and translate technology strategy into measurable business and engineering outcomes.
• Strong talent development, executive communication, financial management, and organizational leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related technology or business discipline.
• Experience leading engineering excellence within a large-scale, regulated, global technology organization.
• Experience modernizing legacy platforms while operating cloud-native services.
• Experience creating shared platforms and reusable capabilities across multiple product organizations.
• Experience applying AI and agentic engineering practices across the software development lifecycle.
