Job summary

University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine seeks a Sr Director of Design & Construction to oversee all capital projects, lead a team of project managers, and coordinate with internal and external partners to deliver high-quality facilities on time and within budget.

The role requires strategic leadership with hands-on execution, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and providing exceptional customer-focused solutions across design, construction, and operations.

Qualifications

• Experience leading capital projects in a university/health system environment.
• Ability to establish project management standards and oversee complex renovations and new construction.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and supervise the design & construction team for PSOM capital projects.
• Direct all phases of capital projects from concept through occupancy and closeout.
• Establish and implement project management standards, controls, and risk mitigation.
• Monitor budgets, schedules, and construction activities; report to senior leadership.
• Coordinate construction to minimize disruption to research, teaching, and clinical operations.
• Champion sustainable design and campus master planning initiatives.
• Oversee design of wet labs, vivaria, clean rooms, and imaging facilities.
• Collaborate with University Facilities, Health System partners, and external vendors.
