Job summary

Capital One is seeking a seasoned Senior Data & AI Risk Lead in McLean, VA to drive risk governance across data and AI controls. You will guide risk strategy, develop oversight processes, and partner with technology and lines of business to ensure compliance with enterprise data and model management requirements.

The role requires 10+ years in technology or data risk, strong leadership, and exceptional communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or military experience.
• 10+ years in Technology Risk, Data Risk, or Model Risk.
• 8+ years of People Management experience; 10+ preferred.
• Experience solving complex programs with strategic execution.

Responsibilities

• Provide departmental oversight and serve as a subject matter expert on AI risk evolution across control domains.
• Identify continual program enhancements based on industry standards for data and AI risk management.
• Partner with Retail Bank Technology and Business teams to assess data and model management compliance.
• Build a strategic view on data risk with the Managing Data Steward team.
• Maintain risk oversight for data quality, lineage, traceability, and data usage in LLM/AI.
• Mitigate risks by influencing stakeholders on remediation strategies.
• Engage in AI usage across lines of business from design to post-deployment monitoring.
• Deliver reports to stakeholders and senior management on data and AI risk and mitigations.
• Develop and lead a high-performing Data and AI risk team through hiring and learning.
• Report to the Head of Tech, Cyber, and Data Risk in Retail Bank.
• Collaborate across Enterprise, Second Line of Defense, and Technology teams.

Job description

• Provide departmental oversight and serve as a subject matter expert on the evolution of AI risk across diverse control domains
• Identify and implement continual program enhancements based on industry standards and best practices for data and AI risk management
• Partner with Retail Bank Technology and Business teams to assess compliance with divisional and enterprise data and model management requirements
• Build a strategic point of view on the evolution of data risk with the Managing Data Steward team
• Build and maintain risk oversight processes for data quality, data lineage and traceability, data transformation, and data usage in LLM and AI
• Apply understanding of control environments to proactively mitigate risks and influence stakeholders on risk mitigation and remediation strategies
• Engage in AI usage across the line of business through design, development, testing, deployment, and post-deployment monitoring
• Deliver decision-oriented reports to stakeholders and senior management on data and AI risk, including key issues and proposed mitigations
• Build a high-performing Data and AI risk team by hiring and developing talent, fostering continuous learning, and establishing clear risk ownership
• Report to the Head of Tech, Cyber, and Data Risk within the Retail Bank
• Partner across Enterprise teams, Second Line of Defense, and Technology teams to develop and support risk identification and mitigation solutions

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
• At least 10 years of experience in Technology Risk, Data Risk, or Model Risk
• At least 8 years of People Management experience
• Preferred: 10+ years of People Management experience
• Experience solving complex programs with a strategic point of view and a background in flawless execution
• Excellent verbal presentation and written communication skills
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills
• Consulting experience with a Big 4 firm
