Job summary

American Health Plans in Franklin, TN seeks a Senior Director of Compliance & Privacy to lead the organization’s compliance and privacy programs. This role reports to the Health Plan Compliance Officer and drives adherence to HIPAA, federal/state laws, and internal policies.

The position oversees audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations, while promoting an ethical culture and regulatory excellence across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare or related field.
• Minimum of three years in healthcare compliance, privacy, risk management, auditing, or regulatory affairs.
• Minimum of three years in leadership or management overseeing compliance/privacy programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the organization’s compliance program in line with regulations and best practices.
• Supervise and mentor compliance staff to build a high-performing team.
• Design and oversee internal auditing and monitoring; conduct enterprise risk assessments and annual work plan.
• Identify vulnerabilities and implement mitigation strategies.
• Oversee incident reporting and investigations with corrective action.
• Coordinate external audits, site visits, and regulator inquiries; ensure readiness and follow-up actions.
• Present updates on compliance activities to leadership and stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
• Deliver compliance training and promote awareness across the organization.
• Monitor regulatory changes and evaluate operational impact to ensure ongoing compliance, including HIPAA and related programs.
• Serve as HIPAA Privacy Officer and collaborate with Security and Legal teams.
