Job summary

Hornets Sports & Entertainment (HSE) seeks a Director of Communications to lead strategic communications and earned media for the Charlotte Hornets and related brands, reporting to the Vice President of Communications & Public Affairs. The Director will guide day-to-day corporate communications programs and proactively pitch stories that elevate visibility locally, regionally and nationally.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
7+ years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, or a similar field.
Proven ability to develop and execute multi-area communication strategies.
Excellent writing, editing and media relations skills.
Ability to manage high-profile events and deadlines.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute strategic communications and public relations plans that support business priorities and enhance visibility.
Lead day-to-day corporate communications and earned media efforts; secure coverage for initiatives.
Identify and pitch compelling stories across people, programs, partnerships, and community efforts.
Create innovative PR strategies and media moments to reach new audiences.
Expand earned media presence beyond traditional sports; build relationships with diverse media.
Maintain strong relationships with reporters and media contacts at local, regional, and national levels.
Prepare executives for media appearances with briefing materials and talking points.
