The Senior Director, Business Planning, is a key commercial leader responsible for turning growth objectives into executable plans and measurable results. This role brings together business planning, lead generation, sales compensation & quota management, and commercial customer delivery to strengthen sales performance and accelerate revenue realization. Leading a multifunctional team, the Senior Director drives disciplined planning, clear performance accountability, and seamless execution from pipeline development through customer activation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Business Planning & Forecasting

• Lead annual operating plans, revenue forecasts, headcount planning, capacity models, and growth strategies.
• Develop revenue models, forecasts, performance reporting, and business insights to support leadership decision-making.
• Translate commercial objectives into measurable plans and performance expectations.
• Identify risks, opportunities, and performance gaps and drive appropriate corrective actions.

Lead Generation & Pipeline Development

• Lead the strategy and operating framework for lead generation, prospecting, and pipeline creation.
• Partner with Sales and Marketing to develop targeted programs that increase qualified opportunities.
• Establish lead generation goals and measure lead volume, conversion, pipeline contribution, and program effectiveness.
• Drive accountability for consistent pipeline-building activity across the sales organization.
• Continuously identify opportunities to improve lead quality, conversion, and overall pipeline health.

Sales Compensation & Commission Management

• Lead the design, administration, and optimization of sales compensation and commission programs.
• Ensure compensation programs align sales behaviors with revenue and growth objectives.
• Maintain governance and accuracy across commission calculation, reporting, and administration.
• Partner with Sales and Finance to evaluate plan effectiveness and recommend adjustments.
• Ensure incentive structures appropriately balance seller motivation, business performance, and financial discipline.

Quota, Territory & Performance Management

• Lead annual quota development and establish consistent, data-driven allocation methodologies.
• Develop territory and account coverage strategies aligned to market opportunity and sales capacity.
• Ensure alignment across revenue targets, quotas, territories, compensation plans, and headcount.
• Monitor quota attainment, sales productivity, territory performance, and capacity.
• Provide leadership with actionable insights into performance trends, risks, and opportunities.

Customer Delivery Project Management

• Lead the Commercial Project Management organization responsible for managing the post-sale customer lifecycle.
• Ensure customer builds, service delivery, provisioning, and installation activities are completed on time and aligned with customer commitments.
• Establish clear ownership, milestones, visibility, and accountability throughout the customer delivery process.
• Proactively identify and resolve delivery risks, dependencies, and escalations that could impact customers or revenue realization.
• Maintain strong communication between Sales and delivery organizations throughout the implementation lifecycle.

Order Provisioning & Installation Management

• Coordinate cross-functional execution across Sales, Construction, Operations, Engineering, and Customer Care to accelerate order completion.
• Maintain visibility into order status, provisioning, construction, installation, and service activation.
• Identify process bottlenecks and drive resolution of issues impacting customer delivery.
• Reduce order-to-install cycle times and accelerate revenue realization.
• Establish performance metrics and operating rhythms that improve accountability across the delivery lifecycle.

Leadership & Operational Excellence

• Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Business Planning and Commercial Project Management organization.
• Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards across the organization.
• Create strong operating disciplines across planning, lead generation, compensation, quota management, and customer delivery.
• Serve as a trusted partner to Commercial leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Foster a culture of ownership, urgency, collaboration, continuous improvement, and results.

What you bring to the table

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Operations, or related field; advanced degree preferred.

Experience

• 10+ years of progressive experience in business planning, sales operations, revenue operations, commercial operations, or related disciplines.
• 5+ years of leadership experience with demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong experience with sales compensation, commission management, quota setting, territory planning, forecasting, and performance management. Demonstrated experience with lead generation and pipeline development programs. Experience overseeing complex commercial customer delivery, provisioning, implementation, or project management functions. Strong financial, analytical, and operational acumen. Proven ability to work across Sales, Finance, Marketing, Operations, Engineering, Construction, and Customer Care. Strong executive communication, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

Base Salary: The base salary range for this position is $150,000 - $200,000 annually, plus opportunities for bonus and benefits, if applicable. The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and capabilities.
