Sr. Director, Biopharma Application Services
The Sr. Director, Biopharma Application Services is responsible for the administration and development of a globally coordinated team of application specialists to drive business opportunities that integrate applications, products, capabilities, and innovations for the entire Biopharma Production Commercial Portfolio including Fluid Handling Solutions, Chemical and Serum businesses. This role will provide technical services, including application expertise, commercial experience, and project management skills to the regional commercial teams to win new business opportunities. This role will liaise with all commercial, marketing, product management, engineering, NPI, quality, and operations to bring novel solutions and knowledge that addresses immediate and long-term customer needs in alignment with the BPP business strategy. This role requires experience in Biopharma Technology and Bioprocess Production leveraging both strong technical acumen and commercial expertise.
What we are looking for
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent/applicable experience; graduate degree a plus
- Experience working in a matrixed environment and coordinating large projects across multiple functional disciplines
- Experience in high level negotiation with customers
- Minimum 15+ years of experience in biopharmaceutical manufacturing or supplying technical products to the same
- Project management skills: have demonstrated ability to push projects over the finish line with sound planning and persistent execution; understand how to align resources, seek input of key constituents, and manage others to achieve desired results
- Up to 50% travel both domestically and globally required

- Develop a team of subject matter experts knowledgeable of all product offerings across the entire Biopharma workflow to support product and commercial growth
- Create a team to provide long‑term technical support and services to support our systems business
- Develop the current technical support team to move into support for the chemicals portfolio
- Lead and provide mentorship to a team of technical experts to support product and workflow technical related questions to our end customers across the BPP
- Work with the SVP of commercial to produce strategies for business growth in key application areas
- Drive coordination with product management and business leaders on Avantor’s key application strategy
- Actively participate in industry groups and forums, author and present at conferences as a technical expert
- Build a BPP harmonized technical applications library to support our proprietary products and customers with tech bulletins, specification sheets, protocols, white papers, and scientific articles
- Provide thought leadership to the overall development of our proprietary products within Biopharma Production
- Identify and develop new business opportunities for complex fluid handling solutions, expanding our proprietary offerings in high growth workflows
- Drive coordination between existing and new application testing labs globally
- Collaborate with strategic marketing to identify key market and workflow insights that can be used to create differentiated value propositions for Avantor’s proprietary offering
- Collaborate with commercial sales leaders in each region to help develop regional business plans
- Liaise with NPI and R&D to identify new products to fill gaps in Avantor’s Biopharma Production value proposition
- Partner with regional commercial teams on large strategic BPP opportunities through customer visits and presentations to C‑Suite executives
- Lead technical sales training programs, detailing products, determining customer needs and requirements, and making recommendations to prospects and customers
- Deliver technical BPP proposals to customers by illustrating Avantor’s value proposition as an integrated solution provider
- Advance business growth by providing insights to internal NPI, engineering and product management teams to develop products and services that meet or exceed customer needs
- Build and nurture relationships with senior key decision makers at existing and potential customers
- Design and perform both application and product‑relevant testing to drive commercialization of new products through the L3 product launches
- Develop and present relevant product application data and collateral to drive volume and sales growth, demand, and profitability in alignment with the BPP long‑term growth strategy
- In partnership with corporate strategy, support M&A target identification and foster relationships with potential targets
