Job summary

Moderna is seeking a Senior Director, Translational Medicine Lead – Autoimmune to shape translational strategy for high-priority autoimmune programs and guide cross‑portfolio development.

The role requires deep human autoimmune immunology expertise, biomarker strategy, and experience in translating complex biology into dose, population, and PoC decisions, with leadership across program teams.

Qualifications

• PhD, MD, MD/PhD, PharmD, or equivalent advanced degree in immunology, autoimmune disease, translational medicine, or a related discipline.
• Typically 10+ years of relevant scientific and drug development experience.
• Demonstrated track record leading translational strategy for multiple clinical-stage autoimmune programs.
• Broad and deep expertise in human immunology and autoimmune disease mechanisms, including T-cell and B-cell biology.
• Extensive experience with clinical biomarker strategy and biomarker-rich clinical trials.
• Strong understanding of end-to-end drug development and translational evidence.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and influence senior stakeholders and mentor talent.

Responsibilities

• Lead clinical-facing translational strategy across programs, integrating biology, pharmacology, biomarkers, and outcomes.
• Define evidence to establish mechanism and therapeutic window and resolve uncertainties.
• Shape portfolio strategy with frameworks for immune tolerance and biomarker feasibility.
• Provide senior leadership in human translational immunology and biomarker strategies.
• Advance cross-program biomarker and translational technology strategy including high‑dimensional assays.
• Partner with Clinical and Quantitative Pharmacology to connect dose to outcomes.
• Shape translational safety strategy and interpret efficacy‑driving pharmacology vs safety.
• Present recommendations in governance on mechanism, population, dose, and PoC.
• Lead cross‑program reverse translation and influence portfolio-level mRNA/LNP in autoimmunity.
• Build capability by mentoring Directors and scientists; lead cross-functional initiatives.
• Lead external scientific engagement and collaborations; influence publications and partnerships.
