Job summary

The University of North Carolina System seeks a Senior Director of AI in Teaching and Learning to drive strategic and operational leadership for AI in teaching, learning, and student success across the UNC System. This hybrid role requires onsite presence in Raleigh several days per week and close partnership with instructors, instructional designers, and campus leaders.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Learning Sciences, Educational Technology, or related field with 7–10 years in higher education.
• Experience leading teaching and learning initiatives at scale.
• Knowledge of AI applications in education, including generative AI.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical instructional strategies.
• Commitment to ethical, equitable, and responsible AI use.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for AI in teaching and learning across the UNC System.
• Lead system-wide efforts to engage instructors, instructional designers, and related roles.
• Develop frameworks, programs, and partnerships translating AI into instructional impact.
• Identify and elevate faculty-led AI projects into scalable resources and models.
• Ensure evidence-based AI-enabled practices are shared across institutions.
