Job summary

Avangrid seeks a Senior Digital Tech Lead to design, develop, and deliver enterprise‑grade system software and applications in an in‑office role in Orange, CT. You will lead cross‑functional teams, shape architecture, and own end‑to‑end delivery across web and mobile platforms.

You will guide complex initiatives, mentor engineers, ensure performance and reliability, and drive continuous improvement aligned with business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline with 10+ years of professional experience; or a Master’s degree with 7+ years of experience.
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience in a senior engineering or technical leadership role. Demonstrated experience as an expert in software development, leveraging Agile DevOps practices for CI/CD.
  • Experience designing cloud‑based solutions using platforms such as Microsoft Azure and/or AWS. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and source control tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins or equivalent).
  • Proven track record of designing, building, and deploying large‑scale, enterprise‑grade, multi‑tier applications that scale across web and mobile platforms.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

As a Senior Technical Lead, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and delivering enterprise‑grade system software and applications that directly support business objectives. You will combine deep technical expertise with people leadership, ensuring high‑quality solutions are implemented efficiently, reliably, and at scale. This role empowers you to shape system architecture, guide teams through complexity, and ensure technology investments translate into measurable operational excellence. You will be accountable for both technical delivery and team performance, overseeing end‑to‑end software development while driving continuous improvement across systems, processes, and capabilities.



Own End‑to‑End Delivery

Design, develop, test, debug, and implement system software and applications aligned with business requirements, while ensuring technology solutions meet performance, reliability, and scalability standards.



Lead Through Complexity

Serve as the technical leader on large, complex initiatives—solving challenging problems, guiding architectural decisions, and ensuring system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored.



Direct High‑Performing Teams

Provide full technical leadership for professional and complex development teams. Set clear direction, adapt development plans, and proactively address resource, delivery, and day to day challenges.



Shape Technology Strategy

Define and validate systems and application design requirements, ensuring solutions are aligned with long‑term business objectives and continuously optimized for efficiency and effectiveness.



Leverage Specialized Expertise

Apply deep technical knowledge to lead solution design, influence standards, and actively participate in innovation and improvement initiatives across the organization.



Partner for Success

Coordinate work delivered by internal teams and external contractors, ensuring consistent execution, accountability, and quality across all technology initiatives.



Key Responsibilities

Technology Expertise

Demonstrates strong expertise in modern Angular frameworks (16+), HTML5, CSS/SCSS, and contemporary UI component libraries and design systems. Applies deep knowledge of front‑end architecture to design scalable, reusable solutions that support both web and mobile applications, including responsive layouts, performance optimization, state management, offline capabilities, and application security. Leverages experience with content management platforms and identity and access management solutions (e.g., CMS platforms such as Liferay and OAuth/OIDC‑based IDPs such as Auth0 or equivalent). Utilizes advanced proficiency in Java (11/17+) and modern JDK features to support scalable backend, API, and integration solutions. Designs and supports cloud‑ready, microservices‑based applications using Spring Boot and related containerization, orchestration, and deployment frameworks.



Technical Leadership & Application Architecture

Provides hands‑on technical leadership across engineering teams, ensuring application design and delivery align with approved solution architecture, platform standards, and business objectives. Leads and mentors engineers while enforcing architectural decisions, coding standards, and engineering best practices to deliver scalable, high‑quality web and mobile solutions. Drives technical execution across the software development lifecycle, collaborating closely with solution architecture, product, and delivery teams to ensure performance, reliability, and maintainability. Oversees technical problem resolution and design decisions across multiple initiatives, balancing architectural compliance with practical delivery needs.



Required Qualifications:

Technical & Functional Skills:

System Integration: Mastery of architecting enterprise‑scale integrations using APIs, connectors, and middleware, specifically with legacy ERP systems like SAP.


Data Platforms: Proficiency with modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, or Microsoft Fabric) for data orchestration and governance.


Architectural Design: Ability to design complex systems that manage data flows, state management, and edge cases effectively.


Web Platforms: Strong hands‑on experience with modern web technologies, including JavaScript, TypeScript, and Angular frameworks and UI libraries.


Advanced proficiency in Java (11/17+) with experience building backend and integration solutions using Spring Boot and microservices architectures.


Experience designing cloud‑based solutions using platforms such as Microsoft Azure and/or AWS. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and source control tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins or equivalent). Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes. Working knowledge of relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
