Job summary

City of New York seeks a Digital Forensic Examiner for the Bronx County District Attorney's Office. The role involves leading data extraction and forensic analysis across devices and networks, with opportunities to testify in court and support advanced investigations.

You will guide junior staff, conduct research on mobile and computer forensics, and help maintain accreditation and internal policies within the Digital Forensics Laboratory.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree preferred (Computer Forensics, Computer Science, Computer Security, or Information Security) with 3 years of professional digital forensic experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Forensics or Cyber Security) with 4 years of professional digital forensic experience can substitute.
• Four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required or equivalent education/experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance to junior Lab personnel in data extraction and analysis techniques.
• Act as technical lead in search warrants involving digital evidence retrieval and examination of devices and networks.
• Conduct research on mobile devices, computers, OS features, and cloud storage.
• Use advanced skills including reverse engineering to support investigations involving cryptocurrency, malware, and IoT devices.
• Develop custom scripts such as Python to analyze data beyond commercial tools.
• Assist Lab Director in updating Lab policies and ensuring accreditation compliance.
• Review others’ work for accreditation requirements.
• Perform duties of Digital Forensic Examiner and Junior Digital Forensic Examiner as needed, including imaging and data recovery.
• Image and recover data on Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, and Linux devices.
• Write accurate reports; senior examiners may form expert opinions.
• Testify to forensic analysis and reports in court proceedings.
• Meet annual proficiency testing requirements.
