Job summary

City of Charlotte is hiring a Senior Diesel Technician to join the Fleet Management Division. You will diagnose and repair a wide range of heavy trucks, sanitation and construction equipment, using advanced electronic engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, and diagnostic software.

You will lead a team of ASE-certified technicians, access OEM software, tooling and training, and receive competitive benefits, boot reimbursement, and a generous sign-on bonus. Weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a degree or certificate from an accredited technical school/college/university.
• ASE Heavy/Medium Truck certifications are preferred.
• Manufacturer training certification recognized by ASE is preferred.
• Three years of relevant experience is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Daily evaluation, inspection, diagnosis and repair of heavy truck fleet, construction equipment, sanitation equipment, and occasionally fire apparatus.
• Diagnosis and repair of complex electronically controlled diesel engines, modern electrical systems, drivetrains, air braking systems, steering and suspension, and hydraulics.
• Inspect vehicle systems, perform preventative maintenance, diagnose and repair failed components on body, chassis and auxiliary systems.
• Utilize fleet maintenance software to document work performed and communicate with fleet operations.
• Follow safety procedures and be able to work weekends/holidays as needed.
• Interpret manuals and diagnostic software to complete work orders.
