Job description

Job Description

For People is a team of skilled technologists dedicated to improving government digital services for disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. We embed directly within government agencies to modernize software, systems, and platforms, enhancing their ability to serve people.

Your Impact

As a Senior DevOps Engineer at For People, you will play a vital role in transforming the user experience for the Medicaid Drug Program (MDP) at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). MDP is crucial for improving access to affordable medications for millions of Medicaid beneficiaries. You will build and maintain infrastructure and automation that enable rapid, reliable delivery of features, empowering CMS to negotiate better drug prices, ensure compliance, and promote transparency in drug costs. Your work will directly impact CMS's ability to allocate funds effectively, helping state Medicaid programs provide affordable prescriptions to low-income individuals and families.

Our Culture

At For People, we prioritize a positive work-life balance, healthy expectations, and caring for our loved ones. Flexibility to pick up children from school or go for a mid-day walk is encouraged!

Our entire team is remote across the United States, from coast to coast. There is no plan to return to an office environment.

Your Opportunities

In this role, you will:

  1. Design, implement, and manage scalable, secure cloud infrastructure within AWS.
  2. Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated application building, testing, and deployment.
  3. Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK).
  4. Manage containerization and orchestration on AWS Fargate and Amazon ECS.
  5. Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting systems (e.g., CloudWatch) for proactive issue resolution.
  6. Automate infrastructure management, operational tasks, and security checks using scripting languages like Python or Bash.
  7. Collaborate with software engineers to optimize performance, troubleshoot deployment issues, and integrate DevOps practices.
  8. Enforce security best practices, vulnerability management, and compliance controls throughout the infrastructure and SDLC.
  9. Manage source code repositories (Git) and branching strategies.
  10. Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.

You Bring

  • A humble and caring attitude aligned with For People’s values—passion, fun, curiosity, sustainability, humility, and respect.
  • 9+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, Cloud Engineering, or related fields.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and managing AWS infrastructure (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, EKS, CloudWatch, etc.).
  • Proven expertise in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as CDK.
  • Good understanding of networking principles (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, Load Balancing, Firewalls, VPCs, Security Groups).

It would be a bonus if you have…

  • Experience deploying and managing infrastructure within Federal government agencies.
  • Previous work with CMS or similar agencies.
