Job summary

The Allen Institute is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer on the Software Engineering Team to build and maintain the infrastructure powering our high-throughput data pipeline and multi-petabyte data sets. The role collaborates with developers to ensure stability, performance, and scalable deployments in production and staging environments.

We value clear written communication and open science, and prefer experience with Ansible, Terraform, Pulumi, pyinfra, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3 years of experience administering substantial Linux deployments.
• Production experience with infrastructure-as-code/configuration-as-code frameworks (Ansible, pyinfra, Pulumi, Terraform).
• Deep production experience configuring cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure).
• Scripting with common languages (Python, Bash, etc.).
• Relational database management experience.

Responsibilities

• Define Linux system configuration in code and write automated tests.
• Create, deploy and maintain AWS Cloud infrastructure using IaC tools.
• Review infrastructure pull requests and follow development/deployment standards.
• Manage on-premises and cloud storage systems.
• Maintain infrastructure stability and performance with production support.
• Support CI/CD, databases, logging, and metrics infra.
