EngenderHealth is a global health non-profit organization with expertise in family planning, sexual and reproductive health, maternal health, gender equality, and gender-based violence prevention and response.

We partner with host country governments to expand access to high-quality health services for their populations and support data-driven policy decisions. We collaborate with local civil society organizations to prioritize health, reproductive rights, and inclusive systems and services.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Development Officer is responsible for developing EngenderHealth’s major giving program and contributing to our corporate giving effort. They will cultivate, solicit, and steward multi-year commitments from existing and newly identified donors to increase EngenderHealth’s unrestricted revenue. This position works closely with our fundraising and communications staff, reporting along with those functions to our Chief of Staff, and working closely with our President & CEO.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develop thoughtful and strategic materials, including letters, reports, and other stewardship materials, to engage potential and current donors.
  2. Travel to visit with EngenderHealth donors and prospective donors to deepen relationships leading to increased engagement and revenue.
  3. Prepare CEO and other staff or board members for meetings with major donors, and design introductions to deepen donor engagement and giving.
  4. Work with philanthropy staff and other fundraising staff to develop comprehensive long-, mid-, and short-term plans to raise unrestricted revenue.
  5. Manage database entries for individuals in the giving portfolio, including tracking engagement, gifts, pledges, and potential.
  6. Contribute to design of and manage nascent corporate giving program, including designing outreach, preparing materials, and building relationships.
  7. Supervise Development Officer, supporting their growth and working as a team to build and develop major gift program.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. 8+ years of progressive philanthropy experience with demonstrated success in major gifts and/or corporate fundraising.
  2. Experience with family and community foundations, donor advised funds, planned giving, and corporate giving preferred.
  3. Experience with sexual and reproductive health and rights content strongly preferred.
  4. Experience in international health and development preferred.
  5. Exceptional skill in relationship management including with major gift donors.
  6. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  7. Experience with donor databases (currently we use Razor’s Edge) required.
  8. Experience conducting prospect research and using relevant tools to do so.
  9. Experience with strategic use of fundraising database software.
  10. Strong understanding of the principles of donor confidentiality and commitment to behave with discretion and integrity in maintaining sensitive information.
  11. Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time, as needed.
  12. Commitment to participate in DC-based team weeks as designated, currently 5 times/year (separate from above travel commitment).
  13. Location: DC area, NYC metro, Bay Area, Southern California preferred; others possible depending on EngenderHealth’s ability to employ in those states.

  1. Some experience in raising funds from individual donors outside the U.S. preferred.
  2. Experience planning engagement events.
  3. Experience working with a mission-driven organization and a global organization a plus.

  • Remote, Washington D.C preferred.
