Job summary

Viam is seeking a Senior Developer Advocate to help developers discover and build with the Viam platform. The role is remote with travel to events, reporting to the SVP of Product & Education. You will create software and hardware projects, produce tutorials and demos, and represent Viam across developer communities.

You will build engaging content, speak at conferences, and contribute to feature feedback, while growing a presence in West Coast and national developer ecosystems.

Qualifications

• Experience creating high-quality technical content for developers (tutorials, videos, sample projects, workshops, talks).
• Experience as a software engineer shipping production software used by real users. Proficiency in Python, Go, C++, or TypeScript.

Responsibilities

• Represent Viam at conferences, meetups, hackathons, and events through speaking, teaching, and building with developers.
• Create robotics projects and content to show what's possible with Viam.
• Turn builds into tutorials, videos, sample code, workshops, demos, and talks.
• Grow engagement in Discord and developer communities; build credibility in relevant technical communities.
• Experiment with emerging technologies and tools to identify opportunities for Viam.
• Build, assemble, test, and troubleshoot software and hardware behind demos.
• Bring developer feedback to Product and Engineering to guide focus.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Developer Advocate to help more developers discover Viam, understand what's possible with the platform, and start building with it. Our Developer Advocacy team is currently based in New York, and we're expanding our presence on the West Coast. You'll report to the SVP of Product & Education.

In this role, you'll build creative software and hardware projects, turn those projects into content and experiences others can learn from and try themselves, and represent Viam across developer communities through events, workshops, and online engagement.

Projects can span a wide range of ideas—from a robotic arm that sorts objects or a computer-vision-powered machine to a smart device or an experiment with emerging physical AI technology.

What you'll do:

• Represent Viam at conferences, meetups, hackathons, and other developer events through speaking, teaching, and building alongside developers.
• Build creative robotics projects that show developers what's possible with Viam.
• Turn what you build and learn into technical content, including tutorials, videos, sample code, workshops, demos, and talks.
• Grow engagement across Viam's Discord and other developer communities, while building your own credibility and presence in the technical communities that matter to our audience.
• Experiment with emerging technologies and developer tools, and identify timely opportunities for Viam to build, teach, or participate.
• Build, assemble, test, and troubleshoot the software and hardware behind demos and projects.
• Bring feedback from developers back to Product and Engineering, and use engagement and platform activation to understand what's working and where to focus next.

What you bring:

• A track record of creating high-quality technical content for developers, such as tutorials, videos, sample projects, workshops, or talks.
• Experience as a software engineer building, shipping, and maintaining production software used by real users. Experience with Python, Go, C++, or TypeScript is especially relevant.
• Strong technical judgment and the ability to independently scope, build, debug, and iterate on software projects with limited direction.
• Hands-on experience with hardware, IoT, embedded systems, electronics, maker projects, or similar physical systems. Professional robotics experience is not required.
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly without losing technical depth.
• A strong understanding of how developers discover, evaluate, and adopt new technologies.
• Comfort speaking publicly, teaching, appearing on video, and engaging directly with developer communities.
• Ability to move quickly, experiment often, and decide both what is worth building and how to build it.
• Comfort traveling and participating in occasional evening or weekend events.

The salary for this role is between $220,000 - 250,000 /year.
