Job summary

Blue Cross NC is seeking a Senior Developer to design, build, and enhance a secure, customer-facing web portal. You will contribute to scalable, high-availability applications across front-end, back-end, and service layers while collaborating with business partners and architects.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with judgment and a passion for continuous learning, innovation, and delivery excellence, in a Hybrid Flex/Remote Flex environment near Durham, NC.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher; or 7+ years of related experience in lieu of degree.
  • Experience developing cloud-native applications and services.
  • Experience with containerization and modern deployment patterns.
  • Experience in regulated industries such as healthcare, insurance, or financial services.
  • Familiarity with application security, performance optimization, monitoring, and observability.
  • Experience mentoring developers and contributing to technical leadership initiatives.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate requirements into effective technical solutions.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production and development issues while communicating effectively with stakeholders, vendors, and team members.
  • Promote code quality through testing, code reviews, automation, and adherence to development best practices.
  • Research emerging technologies, industry trends, and engineering practices to identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Support application performance, reliability, security, and observability objectives.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior developers and other team members.
  • Contribute to agile planning activities, estimation, and delivery commitments.

We are seeking a Senior Developer to help design, build, and enhance our external customer-facing web portal, delivering secure, scalable, and intuitive digital experiences for our customers. In this role, you will develop and support high-performance applications that balance reliability, usability, and maintainability while helping solve complex business challenges. Working closely with business partners, architects, product teams, and fellow engineers, you will contribute to solutions that improve customer engagement, streamline experiences, and support evolving organizational needs. What You’ll Do

Where You’ll Work

Our Hybrid Flex approach is built on presence with a purpose – giving you flexibility to work remotely with intentional in-person connection – that supports a workplace that’s flexible, connected, and future focused. Salary Range

At Blue Cross NC, we take great pride in a fair and equitable compensation package that reflects market-price and our starting salaries are typically planned near the middle of the range listed. Compensation decisions are driven by factors including experience and training, specialized skill sets, licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. Our base salary is part of a robust Total Rewards package that includes an Annual Incentive Bonus*, 401(k) with employer match, Paid Time Off (PTO), and competitive health benefits and wellness programs.
*Based on annual corporate goal achievement and individual performance.
$107,901.00 - $172,642.00
