Job summary

Old Dominion University seeks a senior developer to design, develop, and implement applications for the university portal and related applications. You will support web and mobile needs and contribute to planning proposals for future direction.

You will lead development across enterprise web environments, work with Java, PHP, Angular, React.js, and modern Java-based frameworks, and help evolve system architecture with strong emphasis on security and scalability.

Qualifications

• Extensive structured programming ability demonstrated by working ability to program complex applications in XML, JSON, Java, JavaScript, PHP, Oracle.
• Extensive knowledge of support required for an enterprise-wide web/mobile environment.
• Thorough knowledge of client/server and web environments.
• Thorough knowledge of systems design, security, and planning.
• Considerable knowledge of Vmware, Linux, Apache and the associated hardware and software.
• Working knowledge of SQL databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle. Familiarity with NoSQL databases like Couchbase or MongoDB.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical and project leadership to individual through a wide range of technical skills and at varying administrative levels.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Considerable experience developing rich user interfaces in the browser using frameworks such as Node.js, Angular and React.js

• Some experience in test-driven development practices.
• Experience with systems integration strategies and patterns, such as REST / SOAP web services, messaging, direct SQL / LDAP .
