Job summary

Yahoo is seeking a dynamic Detection Engineering Sr. Manager to lead a team of threat-detection engineers within the Paranoids group. You will shape the detection strategy and guide implementation across our security stack to identify a wide range of cyber threats.

You will partner with Incident Response, Insider Threat, and Intelligence teams, apply MITRE ATT&CK, and use data science and AI tools to scale detections while maintaining trust and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and leadership experience.
• Proven track record leading security or engineering teams.
• Experience with Python, SQL, ETL, SIEM, ML, and cloud infra (GCP/AWS).
• Familiarity with threat detection frameworks (MITRE ATT&CK, Kill Chain) and threat intel.
• Databricks experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Shape and execute our cybersecurity detection strategy with engineers and Threat Detection and Response leadership.
• Brainstorm detection, hunt, and purple-team ideas.
• Lead a hypothesis-driven research cycle with commitments and delivery.
• Guide the sprint process for building and deploying detections.
• Consult on investigations as a leader of the Threat Detection and Response Action Group.
• Build a new system to catch bad actors and protect Yahoo assets.
• Collaborate on Paranoids strategy with cross-team stakeholders.
