Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Design Manager for our Boston office to lead multidisciplinary design teams on complex projects across the Northeast. You will ensure technical integrity, coordination, and timely delivery in collaboration with project managers.

You will drive design standards, manage budgets and schedules, mentor staff, and coordinate interfaces across disciplines while maintaining strong client and stakeholder communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering; advanced degree preferred.
• Massachusetts PE licensure required or ability to obtain licensure through comity.
• 10+ years of relevant experience leading or coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
• Experience managing design scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and coordination.
• Strong understanding of project delivery processes, contractual requirements, and stakeholder management.
• Experience mentoring and developing junior staff.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the design fee estimate and preliminary design schedule.
• Acts as the single accountable design authority, ensuring coherence and compliance.
• Provides design team with contract materials to deliver on budget and schedule.
• Establishes and manages interdisciplinary interfaces and coordination matrices.
• Supports WBS, CBS and OBS aligned with delivery requirements.
• Monitors the design budget and initiates corrective actions.
• Enforces QA processes, design reviews, and records maintenance.
• Leads multidisciplinary coordination meetings and IDRs.
• Manages design standards and variances with approvals.
• Maintains stakeholder communication to meet obligations.
• Coordinates delivery of technical deliverables across disciplines.
• Identifies and manages design changes with cost/schedule impact.
• Identifies and mitigates design risks and issues.
