CDM Smith is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead transportation design projects in Massachusetts and New England. You will manage multi-disciplined teams, develop scopes and budgets, and drive project delivery for state and municipal clients.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree, 10 years of related experience, PMP/ CCM/DBIA certification, and willingness to travel. You will mentor staff and help grow our transportation program across MA, NH, and RI.

  • PMP (PMI), CCM or DBIA certification required within 12 months of hire.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead as Senior Project Manager for design projects in the transportation program.

  • Mentor staff and expand the design and program management practice in MA, NH, and RI.
  • Perform QA/QC of key deliverables across transportation projects.

Job description

CDM Smith currently has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Manager with previous experience managing transportation projects to join and help lead our growing New England Transportation group. In this position, you will manage complex transportation projects for major agencies and municipalities primarily in Massachusetts, with the opportunity to lead projects throughout the Northeast. You will lead multi-disciplined project teams, manage and deliver complex transportation projects, develop the scope and budget for new project pursuits, assist with marketing and business development activities, and serve as a leader in our New England Transportation Group.

As a leader in our program, you will serve our clients and deliver on exciting opportunities by:

  • Serving as the Senior Project Manager for design projects in our transportation program.
  • Working with current staff to enhance our transportation services capabilities.
  • Build strong relationships with transportation clients throughout Massachusetts and New England, identify emerging needs, and work with the local team to translate them into new project opportunities
  • Mentoring staff and helping to expand our design and program management practice in MA, NH, and RI markets.
  • Leading the development of project scopes, schedules, and budgets, and monitoring and controlling project performance.
  • Performing Quality Control/Quality Assurance of key deliverables related to transportation projects managed by others.
  • Implementing CDM Smith's quality procedures throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assisting with marketing and business development efforts to further expand our client base and project opportunities with New England region transportation agencies.
Skills & Abilities
  • Significant experience working with project management methodology including budget development, project planning, control and assurance methodologies, project management software and finance and accounting concepts and practices.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Possesses deep knowledge of project goals, drivers, strategies, risks and opportunities.
  • Demonstrates exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills for interacting with team members and clients.
  • Ability to interact with many people, and process a large volume of requests as necessary.
  • Excellent personal computer skills including expert knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrates superior organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree. 10 years of related experience.
  • PMP (PMI), CCM or DBIA certification is required (within 12 months of hire or promotion onto the Approved Project Manager list).
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license, highly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or related degree.
  • Previous experience managing transportation design projects.
  • Previous experience managing urban design programs for multimodal transportation projects.
  • Previous experience assisting with the proposal process and presenting/meeting with transportation clients.
  • Strong experience meeting and working with Massachusetts state agencies, MassDOT, municipalities, and mid to large sized cities.
