Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to evolve and scale an enterprise design system for the web. You will collaborate with designers, engineers, and platform teams to build accessible, reusable components across products and platforms.

You will translate Figma designs into production-ready code with WCAG/ARIA accessibility in mind, while extending the system to React and Angular. This role emphasizes performance, scalability, and contribution to standards across teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Design Engineer or Design Technologist.
• Experience building or contributing to design systems or UI libraries.
• Strong knowledge of modern HTML, CSS architecture, vanilla JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Deep understanding of semantic HTML, WCAG, and ARIA accessibility standards.
• Experience with progressive enhancement and performance optimization.
• Familiarity with design tokens and related tooling.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a scalable design system authored in Stencil and distributed as Web Components.
• Extend the system to React and Angular consumers with wrappers and integration support.
• Translate designs into production-ready code with accessibility considerations.
• Collaborate with designers and platform teams to ensure consistency across products.
• Contribute to design system documentation and coding standards.
