New Castle, DE: On-site

A leading manufacturer of highly engineered power transmission and rotating equipment is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to support the design, analysis, and development of gear drive systems and components for industrial and marine applications. This role will engineer and design complex drivetrain systems using 3D CAD, engineering calculation software, and established industry standards to develop new and modified gears, shafts, housings, bearings, lubrication systems, instrumentation, and related components.

The Design Engineer will play a key role in developing complete gear drive assemblies, detailed engineering drawings, bills of material, and technical documentation while working closely with customers, service centers, manufacturing, quality, sales, and field service teams. This is a hands-on engineering position offering the opportunity to work on complex rotating equipment and provide technical solutions from initial customer requirements through manufacturing, assembly, testing, and installation.

  • Design and engineer gear drive systems, drivetrain assemblies, components, and related mechanical systems in accordance with customer requirements and engineering standards.

  • Develop 3D models, detailed part drawings, bills of material, assembly drawings, and parts lists for new and modified equipment.

  • Perform detailed engineering analysis of gear drives, rotating equipment, shafts, bearings, housings, and other mechanical components.

  • Select and analyze bearings, lubrication components, instrumentation, and other supporting systems to meet application and specification requirements.

  • Analyze customer specifications, order requirements, and technical documentation to ensure designs meet performance, quality, and customer expectations.

  • Review and check engineering drawings and designs developed internally, by suppliers, or by customers.

  • Partner with manufacturing and regional service centers to resolve engineering issues involving fabrication, machining, assembly, testing, installation, and equipment performance.

  • Work closely with Quality Assurance to evaluate and disposition engineering deviations and ensure appropriate technical solutions are implemented.

  • Provide technical support to Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, Manufacturing, and other engineering teams.

  • Interact directly with customers and internal stakeholders to clarify technical requirements and develop appropriate engineering solutions.

  • Support the development of engineering tools, calculation methods, and processes that improve engineering efficiency and design effectiveness.

  • Apply applicable industry standards and specifications, including AGMA, API, and military specifications, as required.

  • Support projects involving complex rotating equipment, including applications involving rotor dynamics, mass-elastic calculations, acoustics, and vibration analysis.

  • Travel approximately 5% to support customers, service centers, manufacturing operations, or other business requirements.

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required.

  • 5+ years of experience designing mechanical drives, gearboxes, power transmission equipment, or related rotating machinery.

  • Experience with industrial rotating equipment applications and mechanical design preferred.

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD/design software.

  • Experience developing and reviewing manufacturing drawings, assemblies, and bills of material.

  • Working knowledge of gear drive design, power transmission systems, and rotating equipment preferred.

  • Familiarity with AGMA, API, MIL, or other applicable engineering and industry standards preferred.

  • Experience with rotor dynamics, mass-elastic calculations, acoustics, or vibration analysis is a plus.

  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with the ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop practical solutions.

  • Ability to work effectively with customers and cross-functional teams across engineering, manufacturing, quality, sales, service, and operations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate technical information.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
