Job summary

RealTruck, Inc. is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to lead design optimization efforts and drive cost-reduction initiatives across product lines. You will collaborate with Product Management, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing to evaluate materials, suppliers, and manufacturing technologies.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of hands-on design experience and knowledge of Lean/continuous improvement. Proficiency in CAD/CAM and ERP systems is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on product design experience.
• Lean or similar continuous improvement knowledge preferred.
• Software experience: CAD/CAM, Microsoft Office, ERP software.

Responsibilities

• Lead DTV and VA/VE initiatives to optimize existing product designs, reduce costs, and improve value.
• Analyze product designs, materials, components, and processes to identify cost reduction opportunities.
• Develop design solutions using CAD to improve functionality, manufacturability, quality, and cost.
• Apply DFMA principles to simplify designs and improve manufacturing efficiency.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing to evaluate materials and suppliers.
• Prioritize and execute product improvements based on impact and feasibility.
• Collaborate with Quality teams to analyze warranty claims and failures for improvements.

Job description

CORE FUNCTIONS

• Lead DTV and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives to optimize existing product designs, reduce costs, and improve overall product value.
• Analyze product designs, materials, components, and manufacturing processes to identify cost reduction and product simplification opportunities.
• Develop innovative design solutions utilizing CAD and other engineering tools to improve product functionality, manufacturability, quality, and cost competitiveness.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles to simplify product designs, reduce complexity, and improve manufacturing efficiency.
• Partner with Product Management, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing to evaluate alternative materials, components, suppliers, and manufacturing technologies.
• Prioritize and execute product improvement opportunities based on business impact, technical feasibility, and customer requirements.
• Collaborate with Quality teams to analyze warranty claims, product failures, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for design improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 5 or more years of hands-on product design experience
• Lean or similar continuous improvement knowledge and experience preferred
• Software experience: CAD/CAM, Microsoft Office Suite, ERP Software

• Occasional lifting of 25 pounds or less, occasional lifting of 26 pounds or more
• Standing, walking, and sitting throughout the duration of shift, daily
• Repetitive use of hands and/or fingers, able to reach with hands and arms, and use of vision
