Job summary

RealTruck Inc. in Grand Forks, ND is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead DTV and VA/VE initiatives, analyze designs, and drive cost-reduction opportunities across product lines.

You will collaborate with Product Management, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Quality to ensure manufacturability, DFMA-aligned designs, and customer-value improvements. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of hands-on design; proficiency in CAD/CAM and ERP; Lean

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years hands-on product design experience.
• Lean or continuous improvement knowledge and experience preferred.
• Software experience: CAD/CAM, MS Office Suite, ERP Software.

Responsibilities

• Lead DTV and VA/VE initiatives to optimize product designs and reduce costs.
• Analyze product designs, materials, components, and processes to identify cost-reduction opportunities.
• Develop design solutions using CAD to improve functionality, manufacturability, quality, and cost competitiveness.
• Apply DFMA principles to simplify designs and improve manufacturing efficiency.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing on alternatives.
• Prioritize and execute improvement opportunities based on impact and feasibility.
• Work with Quality to analyze warranty claims and customer feedback for design improvements.

Job description

• Lead DTV and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives to optimize existing product designs, reduce costs, and improve overall product value.
• Analyze product designs, materials, components, and manufacturing processes to identify cost reduction and product simplification opportunities.
• Develop innovative design solutions utilizing CAD and other engineering tools to improve product functionality, manufacturability, quality, and cost competitiveness.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles to simplify product designs, reduce complexity, and improve manufacturing efficiency.
• Partner with Product Management, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing to evaluate alternative materials, components, suppliers, and manufacturing technologies.
• Prioritize and execute product improvement opportunities based on business impact, technical feasibility, and customer requirements.
• Collaborate with Quality teams to analyze warranty claims, product failures, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for design improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 5 or more years of hands-on product design experience
• Lean or similar continuous improvement knowledge and experience preferred
• Software experience: CAD/CAM, Microsoft Office Suite, ERP Software

• Repetitive use of hands and/or fingers, able to reach with hands and arms, and use of vision
