Job summary

Karman Space & Defense is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to lead design of aerospace structures, mechanisms, and systems from concept through qualification. You will guide engineering activities, mentor junior engineers, and manage multiple design efforts with hands-on involvement from concept to delivery.

Required are a B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, 6+ years of aerospace/defense design experience, and proficiency with SolidWorks, GD&T, and CAD/CAE tools.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering required.
• 6+ years designing aerospace/defense systems.
• Experience designing hardware that passed qualification testing.
• Proficiency in mechanical design, engineering principles, and drawing conventions.
• Proficient in SolidWorks and GD&T.
• Knowledge of CAD/CAE tools.
• Strong math skills and understanding of material properties.
• Ability to read drawings and technical diagrams.
• Strong computer skills with common engineering tools.
• Knowledge of military and commercial design standards.
• Able to work independently and manage multiple tasks with safety focus.
• Strong problem solving and balancing detail with program goals.
• Excellent communication and customer-relationship skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design activities across concept development, detailed design, validation, and delivery.
• Conceptualize and design structures, mechanisms, and mechanical systems per requirements.
• Perform calculations, analyses, and tolerance stack-ups to validate design intent.
• Verify calculations and analyses by team members.
• Lead design efforts for systems and subsystems across programs.
• Support proposal development and customer presentations with CAD models.
• Generate bills of materials and drafting packages.
• Support prototyping, hardware assembly, testing, and qualification.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across the team.
